Toxic Goddess Models and Photographer in Hong Kong Group Exhibition

June 26th, 2010 | By Dirk Hooper

HONG KONG, CHINA, June 22, 2010 – Award-winning fantasy photographer Dirk Hooper will have ten photos on display June 27th

during the “Accumulate” international art exhibition in Hong Kong, China.  Hooper’s work will join dozens of other international artists at the grand opening of “That Gallery”.  The organizers of the art show describe “Accumulate” as an opportunity to bring together artists from around the word and to exhibit the combined imagination of these artists by showcasing multiple works in a confined space.

Hooper is excited to have work in Hong Kong.  “I’ve wanted to get a foothold in Asia for a while now and it’s hard to beat an exhibition in Hong Kong.  My dream is to get a show in Tokyo, but I’m thrilled with this first step,” Hooper said.  Known primarily for fetish photography, “Accumulate” presents a softer side of Hooper’s work.  “This is not an erotic art show, so I focused more on fantasy and glamour style portraits.  The style is the same, but this work is not as provocative as most of my shows lately,” Hooper explained.

Danger Darling and Scott Van Eck both do work as makeup artists in the ten photos Hooper has in the “Accumulate” exhibition.  The models represented in Hooper’s photos are:

  • Toxic Goddess Aello
  • Toxic Goddess Dame Lebeau
  • Toxic Goddess Eclipse
  • Toxic Goddess Loki
  • Toxic Goddess Oshun
  • Toxic Goddess Rockelle
  • Toxic Goddess Selkie
  • Jade
  • Mistress Kitty
  • Princess Zoe

“Accumulate” will open on Sunday, June 27th at 3:00 p. m. in Hong Kong, China.  “That Gallery” is located at Unit F Superluck Inds Centre, 45-53 Sha Tsui Rd.  Refreshments will be provided.

This is an addendum to the “Tease and Deny” set that I offered last year.  Aello still had a mesh body-stocking on at the end of that shoot and this shoot began with her ripping that stocking off.  However, what we got when that body stocking came off was an amazing classic nude study, rendered in black and white.  In fact, if you look closely, you can still see the pattern of the stocking, which I think makes this set even more interesting.

I actually like this small set better than the original higher-concept shoot because of its simplicity and power.  I think Aello looks every bit the Goddess in this set… like she’s chiseled out of marble.

This shoot came about for an art show at Shilo Brown’s Book Beat, for a new CD release party. The CD was from Bloody Ol’ Mule and was called “Love and Horror in the Backwoods”.

I did two sets of photos, one for “love” and this one for “horror” in the backwoods. The concept was a beauty queen being chased by zombies! Hillbilly Zombies… that is.

As you can see from Robert’s set titled “Concrete Jungle” Scott Van Eck has a singular mastery with airbrush makeup, and we put that talent to work on seven zombies! He works quickly, and did a fantastic job on all of our zombie volunteers.

This is one of those shoots that is excruciatingly irritating while you’re there, but very much worth the effort (at least I think so). It was a very hot and humid summer day and we were out in the mid-day sun, in an overgrown field. While I was uncomfortable, just imagine how those zombies felt, after getting the airbrush makeup, then pouring fake blood all over themselves AND rolling in the dirt!

I just shot the scene pretty much the same way you might shoot a movie, and honestly, just look at the performances of all the participants, they were acting during the entire shoot too. Everyone did a stellar job.

I’ll never forget the very serious discussion we had about the way zombies move and the dedication everyone had to pull this off. Poor Toxic Goddess Aello was doing real screams and silent screams for an hour!

I loved doing it though and I’m happy to share the extended shoot with all the Toxic Goddess fans.

This started out with an elaborate set-up to construct a box to put Aello in. The early shots in this set were more conventional, but it was when I stopped looking through the lens and got very close to Aello that I began to get some interesting work.

The box we shot in, using the monochromatic purple cast and shooting from the hip created a very unusual set. I really like the way Aello’s hair pops here. I also like the illusion that there is very little detail, but the fact that there is actually a great deal of detail in these shots.

I couldn’t have done this set with a model I was just starting to work with. Aello’s trust in me allowed me to get in very close and create compositions that just wouldn’t have happened otherwise. I think it’s also important to note that a lot of the time I encourage Aello to give me a lot of attitude, but you can see her fun side and a tender side here as well.

I enjoyed the way this experiment turned out. I hope you do too.

Between my own desire to do more and more fetish work and Toxic Goddess Aello’s progression into being a professional dominatrix, we’re finding new and exciting ways to express ourselves and “Tease and Deny” is a good example of where we’re headed with that goal.

That leather straightjacket was the core of this piece and the reason why I wanted to shoot in black and white. I knew that leather would look great with that lighting scheme, but this turned out so much more gritty and real than I expected. I love the shadows and highlights in this set.

Both players deserve kudos here. Toxic Goddess Aello plays off her pet exceptionally well, and still manages to keep us in mind for much of the set, while “slave p” certainly deserves recognition for putting that hot outfit on and literally surviving in the dark for the entire shoot.

Modeling for these types of photos are not as easy as you would think!

This is an oldie of a shoot. This was the first shoot that I did with Aello quite awhile back.

It was basically a “tease” pin-up shoot. Not terribly creative but, a fun shoot. I think Aello really did well with her charms. It was wonderful start to a nice body of work that we’ve done since.

The origin of this set started over a year ago when Aello appeared in this outfit for our Trick Con Treat appearance. She was outrageously hot with the outfit, the hat and that funky rose whip (and the hidden sexy lingerie). I wanted to shoot her right away, but I wanted the right location… so we waited. Aello found a great location about six months later and you can see the results here.

I think what works so well is that both Aello and I are dealing with elements that we both love. She’s got this amazing fetish outfit that allows her to be her unique combination of Dominatrix/Sexpot. I’ve got a large stage to work with, complete with tarnished metal and concrete. How could it possibly go wrong?

I savored every second of this shoot because I knew what the results were going to be. I hope you agree.

This set was from the “let’s try this” set of ideas. I had just picked up a new umbrella and decided to play with it some. This was the second shoot that Aello and I did that night. So, I had less of a solid idea about what I wanted in the second shoot.

Throw in a ladder for me to stand on and something different emeges. Aello’s figure really jumps out and she worked really well within the limited space. At the end we have some different images and there seems to be some sort of tangent that I wish I had had more time to explore. Still, I’m happy with the images and Aello did an excellent job.

This is a shoot that’s more about exploring light and form than a lot of concept. I chose purple because I love the color and I wanted her to wear a mask and a collar because I wanted some extra mystery in the darkness.

The last shoot we ran with Aello I had her all covered in cracked white paint, screaming at me. This time Aello got to show why she’s just as much Goddess as she is Toxic.

“Purple Passion” is all mood and no props. I particularly like when Aello’s form becomes almost abstract in the void. I also like how this sort of shoot accentuates her curves.

A photo from “Purple Passion” ran in the 2007 IAO Biting the Apple exhibition and at this year’s St. Valentine’s Day Sick and Twisted Art Show.
