Toxic Goddess Well Represented at “Biting the Apple”

March 25th, 2010 | By Dirk Hooper

This year, the IAO’s Biting the Apple Erotic Art Show will feature the models and photographers of Toxic Goddess in high fashion.  Toxic Goddess photographers Robert Henry and Dirk Hooper will both have pieces in the show and the Toxic Goddesses who will be on the wall (if not in the gallery itself) are Toxic Goddess Eclipse, Toxic Goddess Oshun, Toxic Goddess Dame Lebeau (in two pieces), Toxic Goddess Cravyn, Toxic Goddess Selkie and Toxic Goddess Loki!  Toxic Goddess makeup artist Danger Darling and Toxic Goddess airbrush artist Scott Van Eck has work in the show as well.

Information on the show is below.  Come out and hang with Toxic Goddess!

IAO’s 19th Annual Biting the Apple Erotic Art Show

Individual Artists of Oklahoma will present their 19th annual erotic art show and fetish ball entitled “Cirque Fantastique” on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27, from 7pm to midnight, at IAO Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan in the Film Exchange District of Oklahoma City.

Over the course of the two nights, this year’s Biting the Apple, “Cirque Fantastique,” will quite literally be a circus of fantasies that aims to explore how our fantasies are reflected in popular culture through movies, literature, and even modern myth. By providing an approachable and safe atmosphere, IAO hopes guests will come together in celebration of our fantasies to gain insights into eroticism through a wide array of individual artwork.

Friday, March 26 is the event’s Opening Party. Oklahoma artists will exhibit their erotic art in a combined invited artist and juried art show. The evening will also include erotic poetry readings, a fashion show, film and video screenings and performance art; as well as juror’s and people’s choice awards given for art submissions and IAO’s first ever YouTube video competition.

Saturday, March 27 will be a celebration like no other with the event’s popular Fetish Ball. Attendees are invited to dress as personal taste, fashion, and personal fantasy dictate. Look for artist-made costumes and décor to fit the “Cirque Fantastique” theme.

Join our circus of fantasies with street performers, an erotic dance-off and live peep shows. Both nights will include a cash bar and complimentary food donated by a few of Oklahoma City’s most excellent restaurants.

Tickets are $15 for each night or $25 for both nights.

This set is from the first time I did an erotic shoot with Toxic Goddess Shadow, it was on this day that she won us over and we knew we wanted Shadow to be a Toxic Goddess. These photos also have the distinction of being yet another set that we took in Oklahoma City’s own Conservatory.

I really love the space we shot in. The red walls, concert posters, battered interior and confined space made for a very interesting backdrop. I chose what I call horror lighting, which is a direct light from the ground. Given Shadow’s outfit, the surroundings and Shadow’s own style, I thought this lighting would be both dramatic and flattering.

At the end I moved her very close to the light, and the photos take on an almost chrome look. I like how the red wall, Shadow’s ivory skin and her midnight black hair play against each other in the blown-out lighting.

Shadow shows her penchant for posing sultry at times and sweet at other times. You can’t help but notice that tattoo of Bettie Page on her shoulder and see her influence in what she gave me. Even at this early stage you can see that she has a powerful command of expressions.

This is a blast from the past and a bit of a lost treasure. “n” had travelled here to experience fetish modeling firsthand… and then she met Dark Mistress! You wouldn’t know it by these photos but this shoot had a rather large audience and that didn’t seem to affect the very real scene that unfolded between Dark Mistress and “n”!

This was one of my first digital shoots and one of the first shoots with quality studio lights (thanks to Rob). It’s a very short set, and I probably shoot about ten times as much now. Let’s just say that if I had a larger memory card there’s no telling where this shoot would have gone!

Dark Mistress never fails to deliver.

Yet another set from our shoot at the Conservatory in Oklahoma City. I was dying to do a bar shoot and I couldn’t get two better models to play the parts here.

Selkie turns in a tour de force, with the acrobatics at the beginning and the seduction at the end. Vanity looks almost, dare I say… submissive, in these shots. Both models turn up the heat by the finale.

I lit the set to look like a typical bar and concentrated on doing a sequential set that tells the story of a very motivated bar patron. This is a combination of straight glamour that hopefully also looks like a reality shoot.

As Garth Marenghi says… Enjoy.

Yet another set that we did at the Conservatory in Oklahoma City.

The background guided the concept behind this shoot. It looked like a window in New Orleans to me. I lit it with that intense yellow and orange light to suggest that the sun was coming up in the morning (I never get too far away from my filmmaking roots). I coupled that with a soft light to the front.

Selkie and Dame Lebeau had just met each other but you’d never know it from these photos, which demonstrates their professionalism. Both models had an extensive dance background that unified them and I took full advantage of. This set succeeds on such a high level because of the dance background they share.

Perfect models, perfect location, perfect lighting make for very good photos. One photo from this particular set was part of the IAO Gallery’s 2008 Biting the Apple Show and it sold too!

I can imagine that both Lebeau and Selkie are going to be miffed that this set didn’t appear AROUND Mardi Gras, but as the cajuns say… c’est la vie.

- Dirk Hooper

Personally, I loved working with Selkie. This was the first time I had the chance to model with a live person. lol…and Selkie is just so gorgeous I couldn’t help but to feel nervous around her.

It gets pretty warm under those modeling lights and being that close to the lovely TG Selkie…I have to admit I did sweat…well, just a little.

- Toxic Goddess Dame Lebeau

This shoot was a lot of fun (you can never go wrong with the magnificent Dame LeBeau) and beautifully artistic. I am a huge fan of hers so it was an honor to work with her.

It gave me something to brag about when I got home! ;-) If you aren’t a fan of hers, too… well, just have a look. You will be.

This one is rated as one of my favorite shoots.

When Leila told me she was cutting her hair (for a good cause, Cancer research for kids) I instantly thought about doing something different. What you see is the result of that brainstorm.

Leila’s strength is pin-up/classic style. So it’s always fun to throw her into another arena. This set, like the Green Conservatory, displays how amazing Leila’s range is. She bought into the concept and delivered. I think she plays well within the idea of a bizarre futuristic wasteland.

A special thank you has to go out to Jennifer Marks, not only for her make-up (which was spot on for what I asked for) but the doll as well. Her contributions were certainly significant. I spent a long time putting the set together and it’s always nice to get a rewarding photo set out of one’s work. Especially when several hands come together to create it.

I know that Leila tends to like glamour shoots, so this is pure glamour. The name comes from the elements of this shoot… the ragged patchwork wall… the checkerboard floor… Leila’s leopard corset… there are a lot of dissimilar components of this shoot.

Two things unify the pieces… my lighting… and the incredible Leila who manages, once again, to capture the essence of being both playful and being seductive, and does it like no one else.

This set was a nice leap of faith by Leila. Her “style” is much different than what we did here. However, I had a pretty solid idea about what I wanted to do with the lighting and I knew that I needed a “dark” look.

While I wasn’t sure if Leila would be up for the transformation, I went ahead and suggested that she try something a little different. She seemed a little hesitant but agreed. I then went to Jen and and told her that Leila was okay for trying something different. I explained what I wanted and let her add any touches she wanted since she had the concept and I trust her skills and judgment.

Needless to say we got some excellent images. I think Leila really worked with the idea. Jen’s make-up was solid and it was fun to do. By the end of the shoot everyone was helping out in some regard as an assistant. Therefore, I must give a thank you to Dirk and Jen for their help. Also this shoot was done at The Conservatory in Oklahoma City so, I must thank Dustin again for allowing us to use the place.

At the end of the shoot Leila was joking about her “appearance” and how she would be “going out” and looking very different than she usually does. So I appreciate that sacrifice and it turns out that she really liked this set and it’s one of her favorites. Sometimes it’s good to try something a little different.

This is a fairly unique set, in that, it is rare event that I use only available, natural light. Initiallty, Dame Lebeau and I were planning to shoot in a corner of the Conservatory. However, as she had her make-up finished and I waited to get ready to shoot, I started to play with sunlight coming in the backdoor.

After doing a few tests and talking with her, we decided to change the shoot. After proping the door and dumping water on the floor we started shooting. Dame Lebeau is exquisite and moves incredibly well so she was a natural for this. She has a certain grace and the light was nice. Overall I was quite happy with this shoot and it felt good to challenge myself a bit by only using natural light.

A special thank you to Dustin at the Conservatory in OKC for providing us a location that shows up in this and future shoots.
